Microsoft Augments In-Browser Design

Twitter Header / Microsoft Designer

On April 27th, 2023 Microsoft announced that they’re removing the waitlist to their Designer app (yes, it’s available now).

It can create stunning visuals, social media posts, invitations & more using a super intuitive text-to-image AI generator. Plus, it’s available in-browser.

Whether you’re a casual social media user, a budding designer, or a full-time creator—The new Microsoft Designer will augment and enhance your creative workflow.

Read on to find out how:

🔑 3 Key Benefits

Simplified Creative Process

  • Microsoft Designer is built to assist and empower individuals to get started on new ideas and create unique and high-quality graphics in less time, with or without a background in design (great for me).

  • It uses cutting-edge generative AI technology to help users spark new ideas and unleash their creativity. AI is augmenting human creativity rather than replacing it—meaning creative jobs are here to stay.

  • It integrates with the Microsoft Edge browser, provides AI-powered suggestions & automatically resizes social media posts.

AI-powered Suggestions

  • With Designer, you can quickly create stunning visuals, social media posts, invitations, and more.

  • Microsoft has worked to weave powerful generative capabilities throughout the Designer canvas so that users such as you and I can both prompt for and receive design suggestions.

  • It also helps you generate written captions and hashtags that are more relevant for social media posts. Microsoft has poured millions into understanding what works on social media, so you don’t have to.

Microsoft Edge Integration

  • Designer seamlessly integrates with the Microsoft Edge browser meaning you don’t even have to change tabs to enhance your social media posts.

  • Users can create unique designs instantly by simply describing the graphic they want, without leaving the page they're on, switching windows, or downloading an extension to their browser.

  • Microsoft Edge is gunning for the title of ‘The ultimate AI browser experience’ and with the addition of Designer, it’s captured my attention.

🕵️‍♂️ 2 Notable Features

Customisable and Re-sizable Designs

  • Based on customer feedback, Microsoft has made updates to Designer to help users customise and resize their designs more easily.

  • Users can change the original design canvas size to a different size while automatically shifting the elements of the design to seamlessly fit (no more torturous resizing in Photoshop).

  • You can resize your posts with 20+ media layout templates across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn & more.

Animated Visuals

  • You can now create animated visuals in Designer, which helps you bring your creations to life instantly.

  • This includes animated backgrounds, engaging emotions, and text with transitions applied automatically.

  • Microsoft is positioning Designer as the ultimate all-in-one design app that will be used to satisfy the 165 million new creators that have joined the creator economy in the last 3 years.

💡 1 Integration Idea

Integrating Microsoft Designer into your workflow can help you be more productive and creative.

Here's how I’ll be integrating Designer:

Primarily I see this as a tool to spark new ideas, enhance my creativity, and produce high-quality graphics for social media posts without putting in any of the leg work:

  • To extend the reach of this newsletter, I share it on Twitter through both the Through the Noise Twitter account and my personal LinkedIn. To enhance the visual appeal of my posts, I utilise Microsoft Designer to create header graphics for threads.

  • To create a header graphic, simply visit the Designer page and experiment with prompts until you find a suitable one (it may take a few attempts to create something valuable). Customise the image to your liking once you have selected a prompt.

  • The header image for this post was created using Designer, and I encourage you to try it for your next newsletter post, social media production, or even your personal Instagram.

This will save me hours every single week, and perhaps it could do the same for you.

With the recent announcement of a browser enhanced with GPT-4 and the unveiling of an in-browser design widget this week, I can't help but wonder how long Google can maintain its lead in the search engine market?

These significant advancements in browser technology have the potential to stimulate a wave of improvements in search engines. It's thrilling to anticipate what Google, Mozilla, Safari, and other tech giants will unveil in the upcoming weeks, months, and years.

What are your predictions for the future of search engines?
