🤿 1 Deep Dive

RewindAI features / Lifewire

Funding = $350M

Round = Series A funding, raised publicly (extremely unorthodox)

The Details

Dan Siroker, the CEO and co-founder of Rewind AI, took a bold and unconventional approach to fundraising for the company's Series A round. Instead of following the traditional path, Siroker made a public announcement on Twitter, inviting venture capitalists to submit offers.

To facilitate the process, Siroker shared an online form where investors could specify the highest amount they were comfortable investing, ranging from $200 million to $1 billion. By taking this public approach, Siroker generated significant interest and received an overwhelming response. He dedicated substantial time to personally meet with investors, conducting thorough reference checks, and diligently assessing each opportunity.

Despite attracting offers from over 1,010 investors at valuations surpassing $1B, Siroker carefully selected 61 investors who valued Rewind AI at $350 million, with the National Education Association (NEA) taking the lead with a $12M buy-in.

NEA's exemplary reputation, backed by positive references, played a crucial role in solidifying its position as the ideal partner for Siroker's visionary goals. Furthermore, their commitment to being buyers rather than sellers at the IPO aligned perfectly with Siroker's long-term vision for the company.

The Product

Rewind is the perfect memory tool.

It records anything you’ve seen, said, or heard and makes it searchable.

Using GPT-4, Rewind allows you to ask an AI bot any questions related to your past experiences. Think of it as a personal search engine that retrieves facts and information about everything you’ve encountered

For instance, you can ask Rewind about your activities from last week, and it will provide a summary of the highlights, including meetings attended, emails sent, and websites accessed.

To ensure privacy, Rewind accesses your local Mac recordings, and according to the creators, all your information remains securely stored on your computer without leaving it.
